Really enjoyed this film. Great choice and I also found it educational.
5
Absolutely remarkable film.
5
Great film, well acted and made its points!
5
I’ll be thinking about the issues in the film for months to come! And there will be lots to follow upon, too.
5
An utterly gripping story. And a piece of history which must never be forgotten.
5
Wonderful film. So many hints of parallel moments - very profound and so touchy - and gently warm all the way through.
5
An excellent film - twists & turns. Well acted and it captivated the audience - top marks.
5
Excellent way to recall Spain's horrendous history.
5
Una peticula estupenda!
5
Moving portrait of loss, personal and for a country. Wounds that will never heal. Excellent.
5
Penélope Cruz really can act. Like the contrast of the history & the personal.
5
Great acting, brilliant sets. An intriguing story both present day & in the past.
5
A typical Almodóvar film: lots of emotion, lashings of red and some very liberal minded thinking! He rarely disappoints. And who doesn't just love Penélope Cruz??? Well selected, thank you!
5
Excellent - but that's what I'd expect from Almodóvar. More like this please.
5
Very interesting and thought provoking. I'm learning Spanish so perfect for me!
5
A beautiful film. Love Almodóvar & Penélope Cruz. Los desaparecidos in the Spanish Civil War aren't much known about so good to see represented in a film.
5
So good I didn't mind the hard chair!
5
One of the best films you've shown. An engrossing and very important film. Bravo.
5
'The film of films' Everything about it was absolutely incredible. Not enough words to do it justice; wonderfully moving, emotionally strong. Excellent acting class.
5
Very interesting and moving film. Penélope Cruz is wonderful. Absolutely draws you in.
5
Excellent, powerful, moving, important. Beautiful filming - indoor scenes did look like works of art with use of bright colours. More like this!
5
Beautiful film - flowing river of emotions.
5
I did not get as emotionally involved as I expected. Whether that is my fault or whether the characters were not fully developed I do not know. Certainly, Arturo seemed a rather superficial character. My main criticism is that it was difficult to read the subtitles against a white background. They should have turned black then as some do.
5
I loved the two parallel stories of maternity and historical atrocity and how Almodóvar linked the two. Powerful, poignant - perfectly formed!
5
This was a very moving film, beautifully acted and totally believable. It showed so many aspects of human relationships and the effects on the people involved. How can we be true to ourselves.? It was good that it had a happy ending. The best film this season by far.
5
Powerful - re family ties & need for 'place'. Strange that baby swapping wasn't prevented within maternity unit. Would archeologists continue to use pick axes so close to skeletons? Topical re Ukraine & the future.
5
Really excellent film. Very enjoyable and riveting. Fantastic story lines and great scenery.
5
A superb film, a masterpiece. Very moving - the final scene was particularly moving - and shocking. Beautifully filmed, too, like all Almodóvar's works. A happy ending, despite all the tragedies.
5
Excellently paced film, superbly shot. Almodóvar hits the bullseye again.

Fantastic film, great acting, wonderful photography, very moving.

5
Riveting. Moving.
5
A tad long but an interesting premise. It felt like the history lesson was a bit 'crammed in'...but I would need to think about it a bit more.
5
A wonderful film with a slice of history thrown in.
5
Well done. Only problem was keeping up with the subtitles - the Spanish speak too quickly.
5
Very moving & emotional. Enjoyed it very much.
5
Excellent. What a moving depiction. Beautifully staged & shot - a real treat.
5
I learnt something new tonight - great film.
5
Fascinating insight into legacy of civil war.
5
Brilliant Fantastic Sad but lovely.
5
Very good film. Best so far this term.
5
Two powerful themes brought together beautifully.
5
Excellent. 2 stories well intertwined.
5
Good plot. Well done cinematically.
5
Excellent. Best movie so far. Loved it and was able to follow the Español!
5
Nice mix of the 2 stories - the babies & the ancestors. Unnecessary lesbian scene.
5
Wonderful acting. Long but absorbing. Really good.
5
So much to think about. I loved both stories. What a tangled web?!? Brilliant
5
Beautifully acted. 2 strong subjects. Particularly poignant as have been to Spain, Guernica and the deserted town outside Zavigth. Seen the savagery of the civil war.
4
Intriguing story. Enjoyed looking for the 'red' aspects. Shame about the poor subtitles.
4
An interesting dilemma.
4
Again very poignant.
4
Subtitles difficult to read.
4
Powerful film with strong message.
4
A deeply disturbing film against the awful Civil War of Franco's Spain which divided families. Here the conclusion was an awesome release. Individual grief reserved, wonderful acting, great photocinematic. Deeply moving in its humanity.
4
Well acted. Deep subject at end. Sad that her baby died.
4
Very enjoyable.
4
Powerful film with much to mull over - scenes of civil war could have been enhanced.
4
Informative, thought-provoking story. Really didn't need the lesbian theme.
4
Really enjoyed the story and the cinematography. Another moving tale of love and loss.
4
Very touching film, bringing home the nature of the Spanish civil war of which I was unaware.
4
Not sure what the bit at the end about the civil war had to do with the rest of it. First story very good (or maybe very contrived).
4
Another fascinating film. Thanks.
4
Great acting and a story with great feeling.
4
Very good film! Xxxx seeing the subtitles white background / white letters. Subtly portrayed.
4
Interesting historical backdrop I wasn't aware of. Well acted and engaging story.
4
Very moving, thought provoking, great direction & acting. Excellent.
4
Most interesting / affecting was final scene.
4
4
P. Cruz - something else!
4
V. interesting soap! Love P. Cruz!

3
Well produced. The first half rather drawn out. Not really my cup of tea.
3
Don't understand how the relationship between both women went with the excavation!
3
The film was trying too hard to be 2 stories. It failed. Either make a film about the crimes of Franco alone. These crimes were just bolted onto the story at either end. Pointless!
2
Absolutely no relevance between the political graves story & the triangle of dysfunctional families. Should have stuck with the graves story not another gay triumph.

Films are screened at The Harlington in Fleet every fortnight on Mondays. Everyone is welcome.
