Left by her husband for long periods, Molly raises her children in a remote mountain hut. When fugitive Yadaka arrives, she starts to learn the truth about her lineage. Depicting harsh realities of indigenous people in Australia, this is a powerhouse performance from Leah Purcell.

Powerful cinematography alongside a powerful story, sadly themes of abuse, violence and discrimination that continue to brutally resonate and are not consigned to history.

Powerful film. Beautifully shot. Showed how tough life was for women in Australia and probably in common with women all over the world.
5
Good story. Inspirational. Solid.
5
Excellent film. Was it deliberate that the temperature in the hall echoed the snow on the mountains.
5
A superb film with many threads. We could discuss the issues raised over another evening. Great cinematography and direction. All the more powerful because it was understated. More like this please!
5
Very upsetting, obviously. Giving voice to both the race/colonialism issues and the domestic violence realities in such a harsh environment was overall quite overwhelming and bleak. Moving and important. Bravo, Leah!
5
Brilliant film. How awful for Molly & all the other women.
5
Very powerful, beautifully shot. Great character development. Only criticism - portrayal of Mary was maybe a little self absorbed.
5
Incredibly powerful film. Totally enthralling. Wonderful acting.
5
Cinematography, music, characterisation - very good. Racism + violence against women - ? + it continues - v. good use of a legend - reflection of indigenous culture - layered film.
5
The last vestiges of Christmas spirit were certainly blown away with that film but it was superbly acted and very powerful. Not an easy watch but very much enjoyed it. A very happy New Year to everyone too.
5
An outstanding film! A very moving story about life in 19th century Australian frontier-lands. The harshness of life, the violence towards women, the brutal treatment of the natives. And the courage of a strong woman, passionate in defence of her children. All set against the beautiful Australian landscape.

3
What an interesting film. How awful to be treated so badly. Very sad.
2
Very powerful but the violence against the main character and assault was too brutal. If I had been aware I would not have attended. Warnings in advance please, and something more uplifting in future. Too much abuse of women in cinema/TV/novels.

Films are screened at The Harlington in Fleet every fortnight on Mondays. Everyone is welcome.
