Maurice Flitcroft was notoriously the “world’s worse golfer” after he decided to enter the 1976 Open Championship by pretending to be a professional. Undeterred after being thrown out, he resorted to disguises to continue his dream. The extraordinary story of an ordinary man.

So enjoyed this!! This is one of the most cheering and uplifting films I've ever seen! Mark Rylance's performance is exceptional - he was a proper Barrow boy (& I should know, I was born there!). His character was matched by all the strong performances. Atmosphere of 70s & 80s - music & costumes - excellent.

A very British comedy. Highlighting British class system about a very British underdog story.

The clash between pathos and humour ended in a draw. Extraordinary subject to choose.
3
Humorous. Always keep trying.
3
Not one of Mark Rylance's best! His teeth irritated. Too long & sugary.
3
It was set in the 70's. It was about golf. Two things not in its favour. Simplistic but it made me smile so it can’t be bad! :)
3
Some jokes but not one of my favourites.
2
Not one for me I'm afraid but you cant like everything and it is one of the positives of the Film Society that you get the opportunity to experience films you wouldn't necessarily choose, good or bad. It wasn't bad just not one of Mark Rylance's best but good to see the guffaws from others who were clearly enjoying it.
2
Too slow and too many cliches. A shame as there were some good actors. The script was poor and the editing wasn't slick at all.

Films are screened at The Harlington in Fleet every fortnight on Mondays. Everyone is welcome.
