Seydou and Moussa dream of escaping poverty in Senegal. Illegally travelling to Europe, they avoid prison only to be taken hostage by Libyan rebels. After escaping slavery, Seydou is forced to captain a refugee boat to Italy. A stirring and gripping modern migration odyssey.

Very emotional - moving, horrifying. Gripping film of love & friendship in very scary circumstances. |

A remarkable film with non-professional actors, but a very hard watch. |

Harrowing film which I would imagine reflects the story of many migrants who arrive (if lucky) in Europe. |

What an experience! It makes our local problems so trivial. Do we thank Allah? |

The story drew me in, exciting, engrossing, at times tragic, brutal and difficult to watch. I'm glad it had a happy ending! |

I thought I ought to see this film & am glad I did. Food for thought & compassion. |

Formidable! Superbly insightful, but avoided sentimentality. The best film of the year so far. |

An excellent film with superb cinematography. Wonderful story but very traumatic, very moving, thought provoking. So much misery in the world unfortunately, even worse when fleeing conflicts. |

Thought provoking showing the desperation of poorer communities and the evil trade of trafficking and how it exploits. |

A brilliant exposė of the dangers facing African would-be migrants to Europe and the merciless exploitation of them by traffickers & mafiosi. They're illegals, of course, but you couldn't help rooting for them. |

Finding it hard to put my feelings into words. Should be compulsory viewing for everyone. Acting superb, filming stunning. Story heart-breaking & uplifting. Loved the music. |

Moving film and ever so well acted. Portrayed the events and storyline adequately. One can see the difficulties that arise for our fellow humans seeking to get to Europe. Tear jerky at times. |

I'm ashamed of the human race. Barbaric. Glad someone put this on record. Amazed how the young boys stayed hopeful despite all their suffering. They are the real good people. |

Opening our eyes to the horrors migrants have to go through to reach another coast, another hope. Heart rendering film despite the happy ending. Thank you for selecting this film. |

What a gripping brilliant film. Mans inhumanity to man. But humanity and goodness to fellow beings shone through here. So well acted. Hope people understood a little more what it is to be a migrant/refugee. |

Gruelling! So well done but so grim. Touching relationship between the 2 boys - & man who befriended Seydou. |

I wouldn't want to see this film again despite the wonderful acting of the main characters. Such vulnerability, such cruelty along their journey! |

A story that needs to be told but I found it long & depressing despite excellent acting & cinematography. A fascinating & disturbing glimpse into different lives of often desperate people. |

A powerful and realistic film, made even more impactful by the fact highlighted by Antonia, that only one professional actor was in the cast. The cinematography and raw emotion drew me in to what could have become a familiar migration narrative, adding much new perspective. |
