5	What a powerful film which still managed to pack one heck of a punch at the end. Gripping, stunning, great choice.
5	I was so shaken by the film, I couldn't do it straight away. I felt sick in my stomach with all the injustices, and that's 40 years ago. In some areas it hasn't changed at all!

5	A superlative film - from the acting and cinematography to the accomplished direction by Spike Lee. The true story is superbly told, with humour and a light, deft touch - so that when the toe-curling, gut-wrenching moments occur they pack the most effective punch. As a 'protected' white person, one always sort of knew what was going on - at a superficial level - from media reports (even as now). However, this film brings home the degree of cruel, conniving prejudice from the personal (casual everyday racism) to the political (deliberate [un]official policy). We become increasingly aware how much still exists today, as Lee smoothly cuts to recent events and Trump's twisted reaction. For me, embarrassingly aware - as I had naively thought, having grown up through the civil rights era of protest and battles for equal rights, that things were getting better .... Another film I'd want EVERYONE to view. And another excellent choice by the Film Club committee. Thank you.

5	Second viewing but still one of a kind. Very well crafted and we cannot ignore the link to the current climate. It should lhave won the Oscar for Best Picture.
