A brilliantly executed film dealing with a difficult topic. Illustrating how situations drive extreme obsessive behaviour.
5
Very thought provoking.
5
Amazing storytelling. Stark juxtapose of the realities of the camp and the relationships made.
5
Exceptional acting on a made up story. Great photography.
5
Great story, great acting. Great film!

Fabulous - one of the best films seen so far.
5
Chilling but utterly brilliant!
5
Outstanding film, but just underlines the cruelty & futility of war. And war still happens.
5
Amazingly realistic - dramatic - on the edge of my seat throughout. Can't be bettered.
5
Excellent film but too hard for me. Nevertheless for quality it deserves top marks.
5
Very good! Well chosen. The best yet. A portrayal of brutish force with a glimpse of hope?
5
What a stirring film. Well acted and moving. Thank you for choosing it. Hope I'll sleep tonight!

A very moving film about the horrors of war both past and present. Had the right ending this time.

Humanity, decency and altruism in the face of almost unspeakable evil. Wow!

I am so moved by this film, I can't write anything about it. It makes my heart very heavy.

I was not looking forward to this one but thought it was an excellent film. Great intro from Yvonne too!
5
We have such heights of beauty created in us yet we sink, sink, sink. Marvellously engaged movie.
5
Gripping film about a terrible episode of the human race.
5
So a man who didn't want to die got to the point where he didn't want to live. May have been fictional but a great story.
5
A quite extraordinary film. Beautifully crafted and surprisingly nuanced. And what a concept!
5
Really enjoyed film. Love watching historical outlook on what was an awful time. Goodness knows how he remembered all the new words. Great deserved ending.
5
Excellent choice. Obscene contrast between working & leisure life of the Germans - and lingering doubt that we have not seen the end of such prejudice & violence.
5
Very poignant and forceful film - great story telling. Cinematography created brutal atmosphere so well - all black & grey & brown - very little light. Recalling of the names at the end so poignant.

Gripping. And - as I said last time - I wouldn't have seen it if it wasn't for Fleet Film. Thanks.

Quite remarkable, whether it's based on a true story or not.

Very moving. I don't often cry.

Poor old Klaus!
5
Moving and life affirming - good xxx end.
5
Incredibly powerful film covering a brutal topic. Cinematography beautiful.
4
Difficult to watch in many parts but there was some humour which lightened a terrible situation a little. Clever prisoner who made up a language based on prisoners' names! Most intriguing film. How clever he was to remember all those names to the good...
4
A well crafted film - well acted - but I was always aware of it being acted (with the exception of 'Reza'). It made me remember Son of Saul which was so good. This moved me to tears but will not stay as images in the way of Son of Saul.
4
A beautifully made film - but a hard watch! The drama was watching 'Reza' struggling to reconcile his good luck with the fates of his companions. I loved the ending - the writing of the registers and the need to invent words in 'Farsi' leading to his remembering the names of victims who would have otherwise have been nameless.

Well produced, directed and acted.
4
So powerful. Humour so subtle. But the relationship beautifully developed.
4
A good story well told. Improbable but a reminder of a dreadful time.
4
Good story. Well acted. A hard watch but worth it. And the fable had the right ending.
4
A tough watch. The tension built and rarely let up. A poetic ending. Excellent introduction. Thank you.
4
Far fetched story but very believable because of actors & production generally. Held my attention throughout - vey intense.
4
Beautifully crafted and peaked at the end with the poetic justice of the whole enterprise. Wonderful twist.
3
Mixed feelings about this one. Clever, original storyline. The humour was there but difficult to appreciate agsinst the background of such brutality.

Whilst the acting, the scenery and cinematography were quality, the sometimes farcical nature of the story, albeit pulled back by the intense brutality of the camp when it had strayed too far, was too clumsy for me. Too many well worn tropes and stereotypes ruined the core fable I’m afraid. But a great intro from Yvonne!

We didn't need the subtitles eg 'tense music', 'birdsong'. Also, alas, I so much wanted to find it deeply impressive. But I didn't. Cardboard characters, a cardboard prison camp. A fable, yes. But formulaic. What a sadness!
