Farcical scenarios ensue when a son tries everything to protect his ailing mother from discovering the Fall of the Berlin Wall and the Reunification of Germany. This is a funny, sad, intelligent and entertaining comedy drama.

It was brilliant! I really enjoyed it & was interested in the events of 1990. It gave me a real insight. Of course, it was also very funny, if (as Lara said) a little creepy! |

A serious look back at Germany before the wall came down. Well acted with sad parts & humorous parts. A good interesting film, time well spent. |

Excellent music. This is the kind of movie I like seeing at film club. It was entertaining and if unsure style was a breath of fresh air. |

A trip down memory lane as I lived in Berlin in 1978. Unusual film. Enjoyed it. |

Just shows the power of lies by the state/political party. And flag hangers conning people. Great film. |

An idiosyncratic little film. Entertaining but probably more meaningful to a German! |

Perhaps a little long but such a crazy idea. Little lies getting bigger but so much good intent. |

What a tangled web we weave... I thought the truth would eventually come out, but no!! And waiting to see whether it would, kept me on the edge of my seat. |

Feel almost cheated Mutter never discovered the truth! Could she really believe all those Westerners would stream into the East. Amazing ruse from the son. |

Excellent film if a little long! If only the DDR could have been so good. |

Interesting story about the fall of the Berlin Wall and repercussions. A little far fetched storyline I felt! |

It wasn't sure when to be humorous so neither was I. Amusingly unreal. |

This skillful film really captured the impact of political upheaval on families' everyday lives. What struck me most was not the satire or the humour, but the tenderness at its core of a son and his care and love for his mother. Quietly funny and quietly sad. |

German humour is as subtle as a brick! Story exposed GDR problem. |

The impression was of an amateurish production - too fragmented and fast-moving at the start. Oversimplification of the situation in a divided country leading up to the fall of the wall. Mediocre acting in general, with the exception of the mother. |

Really? I found this, on the whole, boring and a bit amateurish. Some nice moments but that guy must have been superman! Bottling pickles, making videos, working & having a new relationship! I just couldn't believe in it on any level and I can often enjoy a total fantasy. |
