An extraordinary true story of the courage of Eunice Paiva in this tale about a mother reinventing herself to protect her family. Her resourcefulness and dignity are sensitively portrayed by Golden Globe winning Fernanda Torres.

I found this film profoundly moving. Hearing Eunice Paiva’s story told with such honesty was unforgettable. Her calm strength in the face of unimaginable loss left me in awe. It’s a deeply human story that will stay with me .

On the edge of my seat. What really stood out was the wonderful intimacy of the family.

Beautiful film. Eye opener to what happens in war torn countries. Pleased I watched it.
5
Thought provoking. The strength of one woman to get some kind of justice was stunning. Wonderful acting across the board.
5
Outstanding and so much more I would have liked to say but no time!
5
Superbly acted if, at times, a harrowing film. Not an easy watch.
5
The intro to the film by our convenor was very good, thanks. Poignant - well done - sad that people still have so much power over others.
5
Powerful, moving - another superb choice. Congratulations to the selectors!

5
Compelling & thought provoking. Wasn't really aware of this dictatorship. Learnt a lot. Thank you Fleet Film.
5
Shocking. Awful but something about the length. It expressed the complete impotence of the whole situation. Not a film I would see again but very good none the less!
5
An incredibly powerful film. The scenes in the prison depicted her isolation & powerlessness & were hard to see. It was a stark reminder of how fragile our society is, & our families within it. We should never forget that.
5
Long but v.g. So important a film to remember the reality of The Disappeared. An important lesson/warning to us all. Well filmed/acted - convincing, frightening & relevant.
5
Stunning. A very powerful and truly humbling film. Amazingly compelling performance from the lead actress.
5
Riveting but not enjoyable, very claustrophobic. I xx the violence knowing that this goes on still all over the world. What an amazing woman.
5
A tense and very moving film which vividly portrays the reality of life under a brutal military dictatorship, which destroyed so many lives. Inspiring, however, the courage of a woman striving to care for and protect her children, while never giving up the fight for 'justice' for her husband - and for others.

Good film. Extra information/context before it started was very nice to have - added a lot to the film!

Great pic. Piece of history little known in UK. Classic retelling of such a story - well one. Good acting, well shot. More like this please.

This was an incredibly powerful and impactful film, but just a little slow moving for me in parts. The strength and courage of women in the face of adversity never fails to astonish me and I applaud the film selectors for choosing to show us this piece of remarkable history. Bravo!
4
Poignant life story which unfortunately took me back to the same criminal dictatorship occurring in Portugal, about the same time. Bad memories, so I can't say I enjoyed this film.

Great film but life seems very grim at the moment. I'm not sure I needed to be reminded of how cruel man can be!
3
Well made but depressing story.
3
Gripping but could have taken 1/2 the time.

Excellent film. Brilliant cast, specially the Mother. Not exactly entertaining though! Rather long - seats don't get any more comfortable...

I hadn't realised how it was true! What a shame for her to have Alzheimer's A rather slow film but portrayed well the life before & after it changed & the effect on the family.

I really strongly disliked this film. I felt it took far too long to tell the story and wasn't very interesting. I had hoped to like it!
